There’s something undeniably charming about the Prix Fixe Soho chalkboard menu, propped up outside on Dean Street, offering moules marinières, confit duck, steak frites, and more — all French bistro favourites, thoughtfully curated.
I was dithering between three quintessential Soho spots, all just a few cobblestoned steps from one another:

And Prix Fixe, which wooed me with its affordable prix fixe menu and the media crowd sipping wine al fresco.
I opted for the mussels to start — plump, tender, and swimming in a parsley-and-garlic butter sauce that begged to be mopped up with a crusty baguette. Next came the confit de canard: beautifully crisp skin, meltingly soft duck, and a rich gratin dauphinoise that felt far more indulgent than the price suggested. A flash of broccoli kept things from tipping into full-on food coma.
Affordable Wine and Classic Comforts at this Classic Bistro
If you’re after cheap eats in Soho without compromising on atmosphere (or alcohol), Prix Fixe Brasserie delivers on both. The house wine, served by the glass, bottle or carafe, is rustic and drinkable — perfect for sharing over conversation or a bit of solo people-watching from the terrace. Soho is rarely this affordable.
Prix Fixe Soho Service and Setting: Efficient, If Not Chic
Here’s where things divide opinion. The service at Prix Fixe Soho is brisk and polite but lacks the sparkle or sass of nearby spots like Café Boheme, where servers feel like part of the show. Expect your plates to be cleared quickly, and your bill presented promptly — ideal if you’re heading to the theatre or on a tight schedule.
The interior decor at Prix Fixe leans Parisian but feels a little tired. It doesn’t quite hit the elegant heights of Brasserie Zédel or the bohemian buzz of its sister venue, Pierre Victoire up the road. That said, you’re here for the food and the value — not Instagrammable chandeliers.
Is Prix Fixe Soho Worth It? Our Luxe on Less Verdict
Absolutely — if you’re focused on food, value, and a taste of classic French bistro dining in London without the central London markup. I paid just £31 for a two-course meal, a large glass of wine, and service. Bread and butter came gratis — a small touch that made a big difference.
Would I return? For the food, yes. For the atmosphere, I’d probably opt for Café Boheme next time if I wanted more buzz and a jazzier vibe. But for a midweek dinner or pre-theatre bite, Prix Fixe Soho nails the brief.
